Almost nobody has this on a memory card.
Two whitetip reef sharks, each about two metres long, twisting around one another in open water beside a manta cleaning station, while the rest of the channel carries on around them. It is courtship. The male holds the female by the fin. It looks like violence and is the opposite. The pair turn together, slowly, over the coral.
It happened at Moofushi Kandu on the 27th of November 2025, in green water thick with the plankton that brings the mantas. There was no time to set anything up. The pair were already turning when they came into view, and the light was whatever the channel allowed. Sharks courting is one of the rarest things a diver sees. Two frames later they were gone.
Whitetip reef sharks courting, three of them close over the sand, the Maldives.
