Eight at the Ridge

Manta silhouette · Size 70 cm

The story · in my own words

Reef mantas come to Manta Ridge for the same reason divers do: the current. It brings the plankton they feed on and the cleaner fish that attend them, and on a strong tide the ridge can hold a queue of animals.

Eight visited on this dive. Shooting into the sun from below, the aperture closed down until the animal became a shape and the light behind it a disc.

Two of the eight crossed the sun together, and the wings of one read against the surface as a black silhouette. Manta Ridge, Dampier Strait, Raja Ampat.

A manta ray in silhouette, the Dampier Strait.

The technique and lighting lines link to the craft articles that explain them. A dash means the record does not hold it, and I would rather show the gap than fill it.

Postage is by the tube, not the sheet

Postage is the largest single cost in a print order, and it is charged by the tube. A second print travels in the same one.
