A painted frogfish eats anything it can fit in a mouth that opens wider than its head. It waits, it looks like sponge, and when something passes it is gone in a fraction of a second.
A harlequin shrimp eats one thing only: starfish, crown-of-thorns included, which it turns over and consumes alive.
This one climbed slowly over the frogfish, crossed it, and moved on. The frogfish did nothing. Visibility was poor, so one strobe went above the pair at a stop and a third over, and one in front at a stop and a third under, for fill. Lembeh Strait, north Sulawesi.
